Dancehall artist Assassin has landed on the world leading music ranking, Billboard Charts.
Earlier this week, Assassin’s new album “Theory of Reggaetivity”, debuted at #3 on the Billboard Reggae album chart.
Officially released February 1 on his Sound H Entertainment label, “Theory of Reggaetivity” is Assassin’s third album and his first in almost a decade. Speaking with the Jamaica Observer yesterday, Assassin said for him, making “Theory of Reggaetivity”, was about the process, concentrating on the creation, and having fun, not trying for a particular outcome.
Also known by the moniker Agent Sasco, Assassin said reaching #3 on Billboard and #2 on iTunes is incredible and called the achievements humbling and “a different kind of satisfaction”.
Although this is Assassin’s debut on Billboard’s Reggae album chart, technically it is not his first time making the world’s most influential music ranking. Last year he made Billboard’s Hot 100 Singles chart, with U.S. rapper Kendrick Lamar on the song ‘Blacker the Berry’ from his recent Grammy-winning album ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’.
Assassin’s debut makes him the only Jamaican artist to rank in Billboard’s Top 5 Reggae albums this week. The others are Southern Californian band Stick Figure at #1, compilation album Roots Of Reggae by UK label Play 24-7 at #2, UK singer Joss Stone at #4, and Hawaiian band Iration #5. Recent Grammy Reggae Award winner Morgan Heritage is ranked #6.
Assassin aka Agent Sasco is schedule to make his next debut at the upcoming SXSW Music Festival held in Austin, TX March 11 – Mar 20. 20.
