A radio host and program director in the Dominican Republic were killed during a live broadcast.
On Tuesday, Luis Manuel Medina and Leo Martinez were shot and killed after 2 men stormed station 103.5 HICC, during Medina’s program Milenio Caliente (Hot Millennium), and opened fire.
Medina was streaming his program on Facebook Live at the time, and as he reads the news, gunfire and a woman screaming are heard in the background. Medina’s eyes widen before the transmission cuts off.
Medina was shot several times and died at the scene. Martinez – who was Medina’s producer and the station’s director, was found dead in an office next to the radio booth. The station’s secretary Dayaba Garcia was also injured and is currently hospitalized following emergency surgery.
The motive behind the attack is still unknown, however, police are investigating whether or not it is related to Medina’s program – which covered local political and social issues.
3 men have since been arrested for the shooting, but no motive has been established, or charges laid.
The attack was the first of its kind in the Dominican Republic.
