Bayer Leverkusen coach Heiko Herrlich gushed praises for Jamaica-born Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey who was influential in a 4-1 win over Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
The 20-year-old continued a stellar season for the surging Bundesliga club after scoring once and providing one assist in the team’s impressive result. More than that, however, Bailey proved to be an unstoppable down the left flank often leaving flatfooted Hoffenheim defenders trailing in his wake.
It was the player’s goal, however, which opened the floodgates for Leverkusen that set tongues wagging. In the 48thminute, Bailey controlled Julian Brandt’s deflected cross with his right, before impudently back-heeling the ball past a startled Oliver Baumann with his left.
“How we take the lead doesn’t matter to me,” Leverkusen coach Herrlich said later. “But that opening goal was super; it was dirty,” the tactician drooled. “Leon Bailey can do anything at the moment,” he added.
The Jamaican has been in red-hot form for Bundesliga team this season scoring seven goals and registering five assists in 16 appearances so far this season. Bailey has been linked with a move to the English Premier League (EPL) during the January transfer window but the German club seem determined to hold on to their prized asset.
