Jamaican sprint queen Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is pregnant with her first child.
Yesterday she made the announcement via social media, saying “New Chapter awaits, Hello Motherhood!!! See you soon” adding 2 baby emojis and #Motherhood2017 #Hiswill and #PrycelessJourney!!.
She further said that all her focus had been on getting healthy and being in the best possible fitness to defend her world title this year, but now thanks to life’s blessings, she is now focusing on being the greatest mother.
She also thanked sponsors NIKE, GraceKennedy and Digicel for their unwavering support.
The post attracted hundreds of congratulatory messages from fans and fellow athletes – including retired Jamaica’s 100m and 200m Olympic champion Elaine Thompson, who posted “I can’t wait to hear aunty Elaine” and Jamaican-American athlete Sanya Richards-Ross, who announced her pregnancy last month.
Though she did not reveal her due date, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will not compete in this year’s World Championships to be held in London this August, but plans to return to action in 2018.
30-year old Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, married her longtime boyfriend Jason Pryce in 2011.
Regarded as one of the best female sprinters in history Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce holds 16 championship medals, and is a 2-time 100m Olympic gold medalist and 3-time world champion. Last year in the Rio Olympics, she fought through a serious toe injury to win bronze in the 100m and silver as part of the 4x100m.
