Trinidad & Tobago has been ranked amongst the best kickboxers in the world.
Yesterday the World Association of Kickboxing Organization (WAKO) announced that T&T is now ranked 47 out of its 65 affiliate countries, and 10 of its athletes received individual rankings.
Of 10 – who are all members of T&T’s Point Kickboxing Association, 7 achieved top-ten world rankings in their weight class, including one of two women on the team, Keah Johnson, who is ranked 5th in the Over-47 kilogram division.
One member of the team, Ryan Ramoutar ranked in 2 categories – 9th in the Light Contact Under-84kg and 17th in the Under-84kg.
The rankings are a result of T&T’s gold medal winning performances at the 2016 WAKO Pan American Championships, held last October in Mexico.
T&T will host the World Association of Kickboxing Organization’s Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC) Open Championships in September, at Shaw Park, Tobago, in effort to boost sports tourism.
