T&T Soca artist Voice, has been crowned winner of the International Soca Monarch competition – for the second consecutive time.
Held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port-of-Spain, Voice won event in spite of technical difficultites experienced by the sound crew and backing band.
The technical problems began at the beginning of Voice’s performance, causing Voice to sing off key and ask the crowd “Wheres the music?”. Though he tried to keep singing, he and his dancers eventually walked off the stage.
Soca Monarch host Jason Williams, apologized and said it was only right that the young artiste gets another chance.
Minutes later when Voice returned to the stage, his performance was flawless, however according to his mother, Voice exited the venue immediately after his performance because he ‘felt down’, so he was not there when he was announced winner.
Of the situation, Voice – who beat out 22 other artist to retain his Soca Monarch tile, said “I felt I disappointed a lot of people because the expectations were very high and at that point in time, there as nothing else I could have done but cry.”
