China has gifted to Barbados $10 million of educational equipment.
The donation of 14,500 pieces of equipment included 2,500 desks, 2,500 chairs, desktop computers, monitors, and tablets.
The educational teaching materials were presented to the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation just this morning, during a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.
Prime Minister Stuart called the technology components are “excellent teaching aids” and “excellent teaching materials” and urged the student beneficiaries to “make the fullest and most creative use of it.”
While Barbados Minister of Education Ronald Jones, said the donation – which has already began being distributed, would go a long way in assisting both public and private schools registered under the Barbados Education Act.
Jones expressed gratitude to China on behalf of the Barbados Government, saying the country enjoyed long, cordial, and very good relationships with the People’s Republic of China, and is truly appreciative of the gifts.
Chinese Ambassador to Barbados, Wang Ke, said the equipment donation was China’s largest since the establishment of diplomatic ties with Barbados 40 years ago.
