The home of the Deputy Prime Minister of St. Kitts & Nevis was attacked by gunmen.

Around 3am last Friday morning, police in St. Kitts & Nevis received a call reporting gunfire at the home of Deputy Prime Minister Shawn Richards, who resides in the capital city Sandy Point.

Upon arrival, police found the Deputy PM’s house and private vehicle damaged by bullet holes. Deputy PM Richards and his family were home at the time of the incident and escaped without injury.

SKN Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris called the shooting “The latest dastardly act to undermine safety and security in the country” and said the perpetrators would be “hunted down”.

Police have held several persons of interest for questioning but none were charged and all have since been released. The exact motive of the shooting is still unknown, however it has been speculated that it was an act of intimidation against one of Richards’ relatives.

In an interview with local radio station WINN FM, Richards confirmed that his family was doing well despite the traumatic incident and thanked those who offered their concern and support. He said he would leave the matter in the hands of God and the police.

As investigations continue, police are calling on the public to anonymously come forward with any information.
