A government minister in St. Lucia had a teenage girl arrested for attempted blackmail.

St. Lucia’s Ministry of Finance, Dr. Ubaldus Raymond called authorities on 18-year-old Curshaby Alexander after she threatened to publish nude photos of Raymond, if he did not pay her an undisclosed amount of money.

The photos – alleged to be of a nude Raymond in his office and WhatsApp messages between the two, appeared on social media 2 weeks ago.

Alexander appeared in court last Friday and was granted bail of EC $10,000. If found guilty, she faces up to 14 years in jail.

The same day Alexander went to court, Raymond released a statement to the media saying there have been attempts to extort money from him through devious means, and that no amount of threats will cause him to turn away from his values as a human being and as a family man.

The opposition St Lucia Labour Party (SLP) is calling on Minister Raymond to resign immediately, and former Member of Parliament Richard Frederick said he tried to warn Raymond, who’s had the pictures since December.

Prime Minister Allan Chastanet is standing beside Raymond after telling the media ‘let wait and see the outcome of investigations’.
