Bacchanal Jamaica has officially launched its 2017 season.
Last Friday, Bacchanal Jamaica hosted a launch party at its St. Andrew Mas Camp and showcased its new layout.
Jamaica’s Soca community came out in masses to support the launch event, which included a Band Launch and preview of this year’s carnival, costumes, and fetes.
On hand to introduce the 2017 costumes was dancehall deejay Tifa, and
T&T Soca artist Patrice Roberts performed at the event.
Confirming the 2017 season will run its usual 8 weekends, Director of Bacchanal Jamaica, Michael Ammar Jr, listed several new initiatives aimed at making the carnival “bigger and better for 2017”.
Those include the mas camp hosting a unique fete with a different theme every Friday night beginning Friday March 3 through April’s finale weekend.
Other changes are a new starting point and route for the road march, an improved after-party, and improved costume registration and delivery process.
In regards costumes, this year masqueraders will have a wider selection to choose from, with 10 additional costumes from 4 overseas designers being added.
Also new this year, Bacchanal Jamaica has partnered with local Frenchmen Events, Caribbean event-promotion companies Caesar’s Army and Trini Jungle Juice, Roast Entertainment of Barbados, and a team in Miami, to market individual sections of the costumes internationally.
Amar said the changes and partnerships are in effort to boost local participation, increase international visitors from 25% to 40%, and expanded marketing support from other internationally recognized carnival entities.
