Jamaican Reggae songstress Etana, has chosen to parted ways with VP Records.

Etana recently decided not to renew her contract with VP, following 10 years and 4 albums, citing ownership rights.

Etana said once her contract with VP expired, she chose not to renew and instead remain independent, because she wants to retain full ownership of her music.

Speaking highly of VP and its President Chris Chin – saying she admired his ‘heart for music’, Etana said she may enter a distribution deal with sister company VPAL, but it’s time she create and maintains 100% ownership of her masters and copyrights.

She says she has been prepared and ready for the change for some time now, is well versed on using the internet to market her music worldwide.

Etana – who is currently working on her 5th studio album, recently performed in Jamaica for International Women’s Day and is in route to Kenya to perform at the “Dobba Fest” this weekend (March 18), alongside fellow Reggae artists Luciano and Richie Spice.

While there, Etana will also host music workshops as part of a youth initiative organized by Brand Afrika for the government of Kenya.
