Rihanna is the first artist to go platinum in 2017.

On Wednesday January 4th, the Recording Industry Association of America officially certified Rihanna’s song “Kiss It Better” with platinum status.

Platinum means “Kiss It Better” passed 1 million in sales. It makes the third single from Rihanna’s “Anti” album to go platinum, following “Work” and “Needed Me” – with both songs achieving 4x platinum in 2016. “Anti” was the first double platinum album of 2016.

Rihanna shared the news via Instagram with clips from the “Kiss It Better” video and the caption “Thanks again. Praises be to God”.

The Bajan pop star is no stranger to her music reaching platinum status. In 2012 her ‘Diamonds’ went 6x platinum, and in 2015 her collab with Kanye West and Paul McCartney “FourFiveSeconds” went 3x platinum.

Rihanna has also been listed amongst the many black women considered to have dominated ‘culture’ in 2016. She joins first lady Michelle Obama, Beyonce and her sister Solange, Serena Williams, and U.S. Olympians Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, and Simone Manuel on that list.
