St. John’s United Methodist Church of Elmont
As an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church, as with all other elders in charge, I am appointed to a congregation to lead that congregation in the ultimate mission of the UMC of Making Disciples. I am not only appointed to the local congregation of St. John’s but to the local community in which St. John’s is called to do ministry. St. John’s has defined its call as that of a commitment to “Spiritual Development through Bible Study, Prayer, Worship and Service.” I am therefore called to lead the congregation in all those areas and to fulfill its mission which is declared as “…to serve the Community, Nation and the World in a manner exemplified by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” And so my pastoral ministry is being exercised in all these areas stated in the vision of the UMC and the St. John’s congregation. As Elder I am expected to facilitate the development and training of the leadership of our congregation and enable the laity in sharing the vision and fulfilling their calling to the same mission.
