Chase Athletics Track Club athletes; coached by Jamaican Olympian Sanjay Ayre, enjoyed success at this weekend’s Ocean Breeze Grand Prix in Staten Island, New York.
The group had top two finishes in the men’s and women’s 300m events. The athletes used the meet as preparation for the IAAF World Indoor Championships which is due to take place in Birmingham, U.K this coming March.
Travia Jones of Canada won heat one of the women’s 300m in 37.10 seconds, currently the fastest time in the world.
Jamaican Verone Chambers, second overall, won heat two in 37.60 seconds.R.J Alowonle, representing Nigeria, finished in first place with a time of 33.02 seconds in the men’s 300m, followed by training partner Champ Page of the USA who placed second with a time of 33.34.
This year’s second annual Ocean Breeze Grand Prix, a three-day event, attracted over 8000 elite athletes from around the world and just as many spectators.
Some 1200 youth athletes from the Great Metropolitan Area, representing 65 USA Track & Field clubs joined the professional athletes. The meet provided them with what could be a life changing opportunity to see some of world-class athletes they look up to in action, without having to spend hundreds of dollars on tickets.
