Nicaragua (0W-1D-2L, 1 point) rallied from a pair of deficits to secure a 2-2 draw with Jamaica (0-1-2, 1 point) to clinch third place in Group B in the CONCACAF Women’s Under-20 Championship Tuesday at Ato Boldon Stadium.

Nicaragua, which earned its first-ever point after six all-time CU20W games, finished third in the group on goal difference (-4 to -5).

Yessenia Flores levelled at 2-2 in the 82nd minute, shedding a Jamaican defender with a cutback to her left foot, before sending a low shot that bounced inside the near post from 18 yards out.

Six minutes after kickoff, Olufolasade Adamolekun gave Jamaica a 1-0 lead, when she latched onto a Jody Brown cross and rolled her shot over Nicaraguan goalkeeper Alicia Norori, who dived to make the initial save.

Nicaragua equalized in the 23rd minute from the penalty spot, when midfielder Jaclyn Gilday converted after she was taken down inside the box by Jamaica’s Nevillegail Able. It was the Nicaraguans’ first goal of the competition.

Jazmin Grant came off the substitute’s bench to put Jamaica in front, 2-1, in the 63rd minute, receiving the ball on the right sideline and darting run into the box. Nearing the right post, she snapped off a shot that hit off the left hand of Norori, who was caught leaning the wrong way.

Norori, though, would come up with a spectacular late save to deny Brown in the final seconds of regulation to help secure Nicaragua’s historic point.
